My name is Sherrie Charlton and I qualified as a teacher in June 1997. I taught across the Primary range, from Nursery to Year 6, for 16 years before opening a tuition centre called Kip McGrath (Bolton Central) in January 2011. I enjoyed teaching small groups of students and saw just how much difference a little tuition can make. The Kip McGrath franchise was a great way for me to discover what I really wanted from owning my own business and the best way to give the most to my students.
I have recently moved away from the franchise and become ‘Bolton Tuition Centre’, which means that I have total control over the content of every lesson taught, the standard of resources purchased and I can guarantee that every tutor is a qualified teacher. All of my staff have remained with me and the students seem even happier now that the new resources have been unveiled.
I quickly realised that I cannot be everywhere at once and I cannot teach every subject to the same, high standard; therefore, I employ English, Maths, Science and Early Years specialists to teach alongside me. Our teaching assistants ensure that an extra pair of hands is readily available during every session, and the students build great relationships with both teaching and nonteaching staff.
We currently teach English, Maths, science, reading, comprehension, spelling, SATs and 11+ students 6 days a week, with continuously good results in every area. Whilst we cannot guarantee an outcome for any student, we can work alongside parents and schools to ensure that the students have every opportunity to be ‘the best that they can be’ – what more could we ask for?
Every student has an individualised plan which addresses their needs, whilst the small groups ensure that they are not afraid to ask for help when they need it. This means that they do not have the pressure of the traditional 1-2-1 tuition in their own home and are encouraged to work independently in preparation for their exams.
